Joseph Liang

Data Coordinator

I’m a second-generation half from Hong Kong half from Taiwan (I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese). I love learning about people on different levels, as shown by my Economics and Psychology background, and putting data to topics of interest, e.g. studies on academic clickbait and YouTube politicization. I’m also a mega nerd that’s built multiple computers and a mini Raspberry Pi server.

Favourite city: Wintertime Vancouver. I like cold temperatures and the sun being down by 4:00 PM makes me feel like Batman.

My Urban Attribute: Connection. I love seeing how people and different pieces of knowledge, e.g. how personalized psychological data and large-scale economic data can complement each other.

Not-so-guilty pleasure (do not try this at home): 1 cup broccoli (raw, to save cook-time), 3/4 cup water, 1 cup oatmeal (raw), 1 scoop protein powder, 1/2 cup berries, a yogurt, and a banana.

My role at Youthful Cities: As the Data Coordinator, I help teach sessions on Open Data for our Open Up program and I contribute to building our indexes.
