Enabling youth through a pop-up “think and do tank” co-creation model to affect change in their cities.

The Hackathon is a new series of virtual events seeking to keep youth engagement at a high during the time of COVID-19. These virtual events involve exploring an existing issue within a local context in order to develop solutions that fit the lived experiences and realities of the youth in that area.

30Lab + Future City Builders

The 30Lab is a pop-up innovation lab for 30 local young urban influencers to come together over a series of four workshops to create innovative solutions on resilient city systems.

Future City Builders engaged 150 youth (18-29 years old) in Calgary, Halifax, Hamilton, Toronto and Vancouver to develop work-ready skills while improving their city. Modeled on Youthful Cities’ 30Lab program, Future City Builders brings together 30 youth in each city to create and launch innovative ideas for urban food, water, transportation, housing and waste systems.

How It Works

Step 1

Choose a city and a theme based on an urgent need in that city

Step 2

Recruit 30 urban influencers ages 15-29 in that city

Step 3

Take youth through the process of understanding the current reality in their city and co-create ideas for those issues

Step 4

Launch solutions with local partners
